Gutters and roofs

Services

Six kinds of job, each with its own page. Every one starts with a free inspection and a quote.

How it works

A look first, a quote second,
and the work only when you say.

Ring Landmark in Berry Hill, Coleford, and say what you have noticed — water over the edge, a drip, a streak on the wall, moss on the roof. The roof and gutters are inspected free, and you get a quote before anything is agreed.

From first call to finished job
01 /

Call

Say what you have seen. A photo from the ground is useful but not needed.

02 /

Free inspection

The gutters, downpipes, fascia and roof edge are looked at, and you are told what was found.

03 /

Quote, then the work

A quote before anything is agreed. The work is done, the mess is taken away.

What a gutter inspection covers

  • Joints and seals — the unions, stop ends and corners where PVC guttering leaks first
  • Fall — whether the gutter runs gently towards the outlet or holds standing water
  • Brackets and fascia — loose, missing or rusted brackets, and rot in the board they screw into
  • Outlets and downpipes — blocked, split, or discharging somewhere they should not
  • Where the water goes — the gully or drain at the bottom, which is blocked more often than people expect
  • The roof edge above — moss, slipped tiles and broken eaves tiles that feed the gutter with debris
Six things

What gets looked at.

Joints, fall, brackets, outlets, downpipes and the fascia behind it all. The roof edge above, too, because that is where most of what blocks a gutter comes from.

Small roof repairs, before they are big ones

Most roof leaks start small: one slipped tile, a cracked ridge, a piece of lead flashing that has lifted at a chimney. Rain gets under the tiles, the felt carries it for a season or two, and by the time a stain appears on a bedroom ceiling the timber above has been wet for months.

A repair done early is a few tiles and an hour. The same leak left for two winters is a section of felt, a run of battens and a plasterer.

When gutters need cleaning

Twice a year is the usual rule — late autumn once the leaves are down, and spring. Sooner if:

  • There are trees over or near the roof
  • The roof is mossy
  • Water comes over the edge in heavy rain
  • Plants are growing in the gutter
  • There is a green streak on the wall
  • The downpipe gurgles or overflows at the top

A gutter that is cleaned before it overflows costs a clean. One that overflows for a winter costs a wall.
